Weigh my accomplishments; not me.

I’m excited to have been selected as one of Lean Cuisine’s Phenomenal Ambassadors. I’ll be working with the brand all summer to help share great story of accomplishments and great food!

I, like so many other women, am used to being underestimated. People look at me and see a doe-eyed twenty-year-old and they make assumptions based on nothing but my appearance. My baby face makes people conclude that I must be immature and my constant grin leads people to believe that I can’t be serious. And unfortunately, the fact that I’m a girl leads people to think little of me and my abilities off the bat.

But lucky for me, I love proving people wrong.

As a woman I can take people’s harsh judgements and let them pull me down, or I can use them to motivate myself, and that’s what I choose to do.

I should be judged for my accomplishments and who I am as a person, not what people see on the outside. Lean Cuisine agrees, and that is why they are completely overhauling their brand. They are reintroducing themselves as a brand focused on modern eating; with it, comes new bold, ethnic flavors, new attributes, contemporary packaging – which I’ll be writing about later – as well as a new brand campaign that I’m thrilled to share with you today.

Lean Cuisine’s new brand campaign Feed Your PhenomenalTM reflects its new brand purpose: to feed the greatness in every woman. Women should be celebrating their greatness every day, because let’s face it: we’re all pretty great.

To help kick off the campaign, I want to share one of my greatest accomplishments.

Something that I haven’t talked about here all that much is a volunteer organization that I am part of at the University of Illinois. I am a swim instructor for Swimable, a non-profit that gives swim lessons to children with special needs. I joined on a whim last winter, and the experience has quickly changed my life. My heart has been filled with so much love for the kids we teach and their families, and I am so proud to be able to serve with the rest of the Swimable team.

The entire spring season was filled with great accomplishments: one kid finally putting her face in the water without tears, another learning to float unassisted, and other tiny victories that felt like they may as well be Olympic gold medals. But all of these little accomplishments came together during the awards ceremony where I received a certificate for top instructor. To some that certificate is nothing but a piece of paper, but to me it commemorates all of the hard work and special moments that went into the season, and that piece of paper is one of my most prized possessions.

Things like my achievements at Swimable are what I want people to judge me for, not numbers on the scale. Lean Cuisine is kicking off its campaign with their  #WeighThis video featuring real women “weighing” themselves to help start a social conversation with a message that reinforces that the most important thing we should weigh is our accomplishments.
