Day in the Life of a Blogger.

I love blogging. Everyone I know knows that I love blogging. But let me tell you – it can be exhausting. Between writing the posts, taking pictures, and dealing with all of the other aspects it can be intense.

Before I started blogging I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I didn’t know how many nights I would stay up way later than I should writing, or how many mornings I would pull myself out of bed to take pictures while the lighting was so good. I had no idea that there was so much work to be done after hitting publish, or that networking was half of the battle. But most of all I had no idea how much I would love this wonderful adventure.

When it comes down to it, bloggers do a lot of work to keep their blogs up and running, and hopefully ensure their success. It’s so much more than publishing a post a few times a week, and that was so hard for me, and many other new bloggers, to get used to. Coming in I really expected my jobs to be: writing, photography, graphics. But no, there is so much more than that. With that said, I thought I would walk you through the makings of the average Mostly Morgan blog post.

Spoiler: Most of the work comes after writing the post.

Publishing the post.

  1. Check the editorial calendar – rearrange if I don’t want to write that day’s post.
  2. Head over to WordPress and begin writing. I never outline/plan. I write in the way that I would speak and edit any oddities out later.
  3. Read it over. And then again. I don’t want to publish mistakes!
  4. Use PicMonkey, Canva, and Gimp to create a pinnable image and add it to the post.
  5. Work on the SEO so it’s easier to find.
  6. Publish!

Promoting the post.

  1. Post the newest blog post on Facebook. Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, Google +, and any other social media sites.
  2. Find group boards on Pinterest to post to.
  3. Find all of the ‘post of the day’ threads in blogging communities I’m part of and add the post there, too.

Work on Social Media.

Social Media numbers are so important for bloggers, we work hard to keep our accounts active and our followers engaged – it takes a lot of time!

  1. Tweet throughout the day.
  2. Follow other people who seem interesting.
  3. Reblog, retweet, and favorite other people’s content.
  4. Reply to anyone who messaged you, and thank people who shared your content!
  5. Engage as many people as possible – make friends!

Spread the love.

  1. Read your favorite blogs and leave comments!
  2. Tweet other’s articles.
  3. Reblog relevant content.

Rinse and Repeat.

I try to do all of this a few times a week – but life does get in the way! I can’t wait until after Finals so I can devote more time to blogging. And if you’ve been around for a while you might know that my challenge for December is writing an e-book, and I’m excited to announce that for January my challenge will be creating a YouTube channel! So if any of you make videos I would love to see them!
