November Income Report – $299.15

Hello friends! If you’ve been around you may recall me publishing my first ever income report last month. I am doing this for a few reasons: Accountability, so I can offer other bloggers advice, and so I can monitor my progress. I mentioned that this blog is my sole source of income, and I’m hoping to continue growing it and hopefully use my earnings to pay for grad school in 3 years.

What I did in November:

So, if you didn’t notice – I posted every single day in November. It was stressful, it was intense, and it was amazing. It didn’t have the huge impact on my numbers that I thought it would, though I did have a net gain of 14 subscribers (after losing quite a few who didn’t fancy seeing me in their inbox each day.) I did have slightly higher traffic, but nothing extreme.

What this means for me: I don’t need to stress about posting everyday. I was almost afraid that it would have a huge positive impact, leaving me no choice but to keep that schedule. I love blogging with every fiber of my being, but at this point I just don’t have it in me to post every single day.

Again sponsored posts are my big money maker, although I do plan on beginning to sell products in the future. Namely an e-book that is in the works now and an etsy shop. Being my own boss is something that really appeals to me because I set my own hours, work at my own pace, and am not limited by anyone else.

Check out to see her November income report and some blogging advice!

October Income

Blogher – $29.67
Clever Girls – $225 + Product
Host Gator (How to Start a Blog) – $50
Adsense (On sponsored posts) – $1.31
Total – $305.98

Hosting – 6.83

After taking out the hosting expense, this month my income came to a grand total of: $299.15!

I am down about $40 dollars from last month, but I expected that. I took on less sponsored posts being that I was doing NaBloPoMo and I didn’t think I’d be able to do that and pump out quality sponsored posts, as they typically require a lot more work than my usual posts. I did see growth (albeit, minimal growth) where I wanted to – and that’s Blogher. Reading other blogger’s income reports, there were quite a few who are making significantly more than me (as in 3x) despite getting a lot less pageviews. While it’s not all about the money, it is frustrating to see that extreme disparity. So change in the right direction is definitely encouraging!

November Income Report

Like I said, not a huge difference considering the stress NaBloPoMo put me through but I am actually super happy still. This is the highest my numbers have been since this post went ‘viral’ (maybe not viral viral, but it sure felt like it at the time!) in August. I did the math and this is 26424 more views than I got in October, which is an added ~880 views a day. Huh, now that I did the math it does seem a little significant. Hooray!

Thoughts on Traffic & Income

Despite making less money, I am actually really happy with the month of November as far as blogging goes. I met the NaBloPoMo challenge, there is an upswing on my Blogher revenue, and I am noticing slightly more engagement.

Traffic: I am hoping with the added content on my blog, page views will continue to rise (though I can’t expect a repeat this month, given that I’m not posting every day!) When it comes down to it I set a lofty goal of 150,000 page views, which was a bit impractical, and I realize that now which is why I’m not disappointed in the slightest!

Income: Again – I was afraid to bite off more than I could chew, so I played it safe and only accepted two sponsored posts (though in hindsight I could have probably taken on one or two more!) I don’t mind making less money, because I’m still amazed that I am able to make any money at all – and incredibly grateful – too! I am anticipating lower income in December, too, as a great majority of the sponsored posts available during the holidays are for mommy bloggers.

You all may be sick of hearing it – but I am writing an e-book this month, and fine tuning and publishing in January. I am anticipating this to be a fair source of revenue for me. I am keeping price low so that it is easily accessible for everybody (though it hasn’t been quite decided on yet) but I am hoping for high sales.

Ad Company: Like I said, I am with Blogher, but I am seriously considering switching back to Google Adsense or another ad company as I’m finding Blogher to be too restricting without giving me any benefits at all. I am very disappointed as I was excited to make the transition initially and it’s not living up to what I had hoped it would be. If any of you are experiencing problems with Blogher or know of a great ad company, I would love to hear from you!

Growth: One thing I seriously started working on in the end of November (and continuing into the foreseeable future) is growing my social media following. I want an engaged audience, as social media is so important – but it’s definitely something I find myself struggling with. Staying active on all social media is tricky, but something I am finally getting the hang of. In the future I’m hoping to make Twitter a driving force for traffic.

There we have it, my November income! As a precaution I do want to say that I am aware that many people believe talking about money is in poor taste, but I’m doing it anyways. Reading other blogger’s income reports has always been exciting and inspiring for me – and I think it is a great way to force yourself to sit down and analyze what is working for your blog, and what isn’t. There are many other bloggers publishing income reports, most making significantly more than I, and I honestly couldn’t be more grateful. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon Pinch of Yum’s income report that I ever thought I could make Mostly Morgan profitable.

If you are interested in making a profitable blog – I would be more than happy to help! I have an incredibly extensive guide to setting up a blog here, and from there you can check out my blogging tips (there are a lot!) and if you need any further help – email me! I absolutely love talking about blogging (my friends and family are sick of hearing about it!) so do not hesitate. It is finals week and then Christmas so I might take a little longer than normal to respond – but I promise I’ll get to you as soon as possible!

Thank you guys for reading and have a lovely day!
