I always have so many big plans and goals set for myself at the beginning of the year, but halfway through my motivation tends to be waning. It’s not that I don’t want to accomplish all of those things anymore, but sometime I just end up feeling burnt out and like I need a break. The problem with that is, I then take a break, and then lose any and all momentum I had.
Once I lose motivation, it is hard for me to pick back up where I left off and I’m left feeling discouraged. Lately I’ve been trying to be more purposeful in getting things done and working towards my goals, but I’m not perfect. When I fall off I have a tricks to get myself back on track, and I thought that my tricks might be able to help you, too!
When I need motivation to study.
Losing motivation to study happens to me so frequently – I can’t grasp a concept and then I shut down and it’s hard for me to get back into the groove after that. Instead of allowing myself to get totally off focus, I will instead give myself a five minute breather where I can regroup and calm down. I also really like to check out the studyblr community on Tumblr, because they are the most motivate group of individuals that I have ever seen. Checking out their super neat, color coded notes and studying tips makes studying almost seem fun. It is weird how that group showing studying in a positive light helps me get more excited about it, too!
When I need motivation to workout.
Personally, I really like to workout, but actually getting out of bed and to the gym or outside is one of the hardest parts of my day and I lose momentum really quickly. I have two solutions to this: I will either reevaluate my goals, which I keep in one of my many journals, and I will choose one of my fitness goals and decide to work on that one in specific. Knowing that I am working towards something in specific really helps me get excited to work out. Another way I get motivated is watching a Blogilates video – I swear that pilates is one of the most effective workouts that I have ever done – and they are fun, too!
When I need motivation to blog.
I tend to lose blogging motivation whenever I am home from school (which is why it’s Wednesday and I’m just now getting my first post of the week up.) To really get me motivated I like to look through my old posts and read the comments. Knowing that what I am doing is appreciated and actually helping people makes me feel like it’s something I need to be doing. I love reading the comments and knowing that even if it’s just by a few people, my content is being enjoyed.
When I need motivation to clean.
For the most part, I keep my side of the dorm really clean because in such a small space the mess drives me crazy. But on super busy weeks I definitely tend to let it go until I have an overwhelming mess. My biggest motivation in getting myself to clean is inviting a friend over. I look at my room through their eyes and know that it’s a mess so I hurry and clean before they come over. It’s nice because my room is clean, and now I get to hang out with a friend!
As a bonus tip, I’ve started to clean for the first five or ten minutes that I get back into my room before I do anything else, and now the mess doesn’t accumulate and my room has been so much tidier!
What do you do to keep yourself motivated?
