How to Make Money Blogging.

Hello everyone! I apologize as it’s been a week since my last post, but I’m making up for it by posting a goodie that I’ve been working on for quite a while:

How do I make money blogging?

The question bloggers everywhere ask themselves and one that I am finally figuring out the answer to. I am going to share the tips and tricks that I personally use, though I myself have only reached the tip of the iceberg. I am going to share with you the experiences that I have had and the resources I use to make money from this blog. I have been making money since June 28 of this year and every month I have been able to increase my income. So even if you are already making money I may be able to help!

First things first, you are going to need to have a blog. Luckily I have a super in depth guide that walks you through how to set one up. If you have any questions about this process email me!

How bloggers of all levels can start making money off of their blogs.

I have used two different ad providers and had great experiences with both of them. I first used Google Adsense but have since switched over to BlogHer.

Google Adsense

If you are a beginner, I recommend going with Google Adsense first because its a lot easier to get into and it is less restrictive. I say it’s easier to get into, but even then I had to apply twice before getting accepted. If you’re going to apply make sure you meet these standards:

  • Have a nice theme. That doesn’t mean a paid one (I still use a free theme!) but a clean and easy to navigate theme. You are going to want to have a organized navigation bar, simple colors, and a search bar.
  • Have a privacy policy mine is at the very bottom of my website if you want to check it out! As of now it looks sort of bad and I need to clean it up, but it is there!
  • Have an about me and contact me page. You should have these whether you are applying for adsense or not!
  • Have content on your site! If you only have fifteen posts, it’s quite unlikely that you’ll get accepted (though not impossible!) but you do really want to establish yourself as a blogger before applying!
  • Write quality posts that provide value to the readers. If you’re like me and live a fairly ordinary life, writing about day to day happening aren’t going to cut it. I write posts with advice and how-to’s so my readers will hopefully walk away enriched!

I have been with Blogher for a month now, and have already surpassed what I made with adsense  in three months! While I am having a great experience with their ads, I know a lot of people do better with adsense as what you make varies person by person. Blogher is a lot harder to get into and the exact requirements seem to be a mystery. So many great bloggers (much better than me!) still haven’t gotten in. With Blogher it’s just a matter of lucking into having what they are looking for, as far as I am concerned.

Sponsored Posts

I have made most of my money through sponsored posts. They are great because you get to choose exactly how to present them so you’re able to stay true to the theme of your blog. The very first sponsored posts I ever did were sparked by emails I received out of the blue inviting me to participate.

If you are going to write a sponsored post make sure that your heart is in the right place and the post isn’t going to seem awkward or forced. If you don’t really love the product/service/etc. then don’t post about it.

I also use several different sites to find sponsored post opportunities.

Linqia is the most recent site I joined, and perhaps it’s for that reason it is the one that I am most enamored with. They pay you after only 3 days, as opposed to the thirty or forty-five most other sites use. Not only that but they are pay per click, which is intimidating, but you’ll be surprised how engaged your audience actually is! Linqia has pretty tough requirements to get in, but apply anyhow. I didn’t meet them and I got an email the next day saying I was in!

Clever Girls Collective

I am really excited about Clever Girls, I applied three times but it was well worth it when I finally got in. I’ve made the most here, as their opportunities are a little more exclusive. They tend to range from $100 to $250, although there is one open now for $800! I love how the site works, too. You can apply for every opportunity, rather than them choosing the ones you apply for. You basically just give them your pitch and sometimes social media numbers and hope for the best.

Social Spark/Izea

Social Spark was the very first site I joined, and I have gotten several opportunities from it! Their campaigns don’t tend to pay as well, but there are more of them so it sort of balances out! Social Spark and Izea are about to merge into one site, but I am linking you to Social Spark because Izea is down. What is really cool about Social Spark is that you’re able to negotiate prices rather than having to either accept the offer as is or lose the post opportunity all together.

I have one last website I want to share with you – you don’t get money, but you do get the opportunity to try out free stuff!

Through Influenster you can receive Vox Boxes full of cool goodies like makeup, candy, food, office supplies and so much more! Search #VoxBox on Twitter or Instagram if you want to get a better idea of what is in the boxes! If you want an invite, leave your email below and I will send you one!

That’s all I have for you today, though I have just started trying out some new monetization tips. Starting at the end of October I will be publishing monthly income reports that will give a run down of what I did that month to make money, so keep an eye out!
