My empowerment playlist.

You guys, the other day I opened up big time and hit ‘publish’ on the most honest post I’d ever written. I made myself vulnerable and I opened up to you in hopes that my story might one day help someone. But you know what? You guys helped me.

I have never been so scared to publish a post and I didn’t expect the massive out pour of support from you all (I don’t know why, I should have known better. You guys are the best!) But between the sweet comments and emails you sent my way, you taught me that I can be open about what I’m going through, and that rather than judgement, people will respond with love.

It feels great to have such a huge support system, but before I opened up about the things going on in my life, I spent a great deal of time finding comfort in music. Before I realized I needed to make a change I was listening to Pink’s ‘Don’t let me get me’ on repeat (not recommended) but in the past month or two I created an empowerment  playlist that I thought I could share with y’all!

My ‘feel good about me’ empowerment playlist!

Fight Song – Rachel Patten

This was my OG ‘lets get better’ song. I’m actually in the process of translating it into ASL! I’m going to check copyright laws and such and upload it on YouTube if all is kosher with that once I get it all learnt!

‘This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me’

Heroes – Alesso

For real, this song is awesome. When I was debating taking the semester off this one really spoke to me. I felt like a failure for not staying on the path ‘to success,’ but the line ‘everyday people do everyday things but I can’t be one of them.’ really helped me. I don’t need to do what everyone else is doing, and maybe I’m not supposed to.

‘Everyday people do everyday things but I
Can’t be one of them
I know you hear me now, we are a different kind
We can do anything

Anybody’s got the power
They don’t see it cause they don’t understand
Spin around and round for hours
You and me, we got the world in our hands’

Burning Gold – Christina Perry

This song is a big one. This ones main message is needing a change; something I was (and am) desperately searching for. To be honest I don’t completely love the sound of this song. But the lyrics are there so I love the song itself.

‘I’ve had enough
I’m standing up
I need, I need a change
I’ve had enough
Of chasing luck
I need, I need a change’

Born this way – Lady Gaga

I’m a low key Lady Gaga fan girl, and this is in my top five of her songs. Everything about it is perfect, but the message is out of this world. No matter how you’re feeling at the moment, this song will make you feel even better.

‘There’s nothin’ wrong with lovin’ who you are
She said, ’cause He made you perfect, babe
So hold your head up,
girl and you’ll go far
Listen to me when I say
I’m beautiful in my way
‘Cause God makes no mistakes
I’m on the right track, baby
I was born this way’
Blaze – Colbie Caillat
Ok, so I’m pretty sure this song is about partying, put it’s on the list for two reasons: it’s impossible for me not to sing along and it makes me feel happy, and that’s what this list is all about, right?
Every night, every day
We light the sky
Up in a blaze
Shine like the stars
Burn like a flame
No we’re never going out
Those are my top five ‘feel good about me’ songs on my empowerment playlist, but please let me know if you have anymore I should listen to! I’m always looking to build my playlist!
