My Favorite Pre-Workout Meal!

I’ve mentioned before that I am was training for a half marathon this summer – unfortunately and ankle injury made running impossible for the time being, but I am still regularly going to the gym to use the elliptical, lift weights, and do core exercises. I can’t rave enough about the benefits of working out and getting your daily dose of endorphins, but I will spare you from dealing with that and just say that working out – even if just for 15 or 20 minutes a day – will lift your mood and give you a huge energy boost. Trust me.

But if you’re just working out and not pairing that with eating right, you aren’t going to be getting the most out of your time at the gym. When you’re looking for the ideal pre-workout meal you want something light, full of protein, and that is going to give you a ton of energy. Lately my go-to has been old fashioned oatmeal doctored up with a ton of extra goodies.

My two favorite oatmeals are banana nut and cinnamon sugar, which is what I used today! Oatmeal is pretty easy to make – the box says you can add either hot water or hot milk. Milk is better than water, but Silk Soymilk is the best. Soymilk already has a slightly sweet flavor that normal milk lacks, and it is dairy free, so it won’t irritate your stomach! Plus, Silk soymilk has a ton of protein in it, making it the perfect compliment to any workout regimen, with 8 grams of protein, Silk has more protein than any other dairy-free milk!

In addition to the oatmeal I love to add a ton of fruits and almonds. Today I used strawberries and blueberries, though raspberries and bananas usually make an appearance in my morning meal, too. Fruit is full of natural sugars that will give you a ton of energy for your workout. The almonds help increase fat burning and like fruit, almonds have a ton of energy boosting properties,too! This meal is great because it will keep you full for hours, all while being light enough that you can comfortably work out right after eating!
