Goals for my Sophomore Year of College.

Goals for my Sophomore Year!

Like many students, I don’t think of years as being from January to January, rather I feel a year is from August to August. The new year begins when the new school year begins. I decided that I wanted to publish my top goals for this year to potentially inspire you, but also to keep myself accountable. I’m not just telling one or two people, I’m telling several thousand, so I guess I have to do it! I have a huge list of all of my goals here, but I decided that I wanted a separate list of goals I will focus on during the 2014-2015 school year and the following summer. Now, I didn’t want to bore you all with school related goals, but of course I will be focusing on doing well in my classes, as well! These are just my more interesting goals that some of you may be able to relate to!

Buy a DSLR and learn to use it.

This is something I’ve been struggling with for a while. I want one. Like really really want one. But I also want to keep my money. I mean, what if theres an emergency?! But as I’m transitioning into blogging more seriously I know that it is a must eventually, and the sooner I get it the sooner I’ll learn how to create better images for the site. I set a deadline for myself – I will have ordered my camera by October 12 which gives me just under two months to save up.

Put my big girl panties on and fly to Texas.

My long time best friend broke my heart and moved to Texas (I’m looking at you, Jennifer!!) to pursue college and a career and success and all of the other nonsense that allegedly comes with this abstract idea of “adulthood.” I couldn’t be prouder of her but going from seeing her nearly everyday for six years to seeing her six times in a year sucks. She comes home for visits, but it’s not enough. Next summer I am going to fly down and visit her. And if you know me, you know I hate flying. Getting me on a plane is one thing, but getting me to get on a plane alone without anyone’s hand to hold is another. Gosh, I hope I don’t die.

Run or swim everyday.

I was a runner in high school and I still workout almost everyday, but I lack the cardio. Zumba twice a week is great but not nearly enough. I want to build my endurance back up and perhaps train for a triathlon in the future. Ultimately I just want to be strong and healthy, but I also want to be disciplined enough to get up and work out everyday even when I really REALLY don’t want to. Plus, endorphins.

Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands, they just don’t. – Elle Woods

Finish a blanket for Chris.

If you don’t know this, I really enjoy knitting and crocheting. But I also really enjoy taking my time with these things. Over a year ago I felt really ambitious and started making my boyfriend a blanket he could take to college with him. But things didn’t work out. I decided I wanted to make it super wide and snuggly so it’s about five feet wide, but only about a foot and a half long. Whoops. But I am going to finish it, I swear.

Perfect the handstand.

I have been dabbling in yoga (aka I do downward dog and call it a day) for a few months now and I’m getting pretty good at headstands, but I want to learn how to do a handstand and be really good at it. In theory I know how to do one and what I’m doing wrong, but I just can’t get my body to do what it’s supposed to do!

And then I promptly topple.

Post at least once every five days.

I really really thought this summer I’d have all sorts of time to pre-write, pre-edit, and pre-photograph blog posts. I wanted to have a huge arsenal on hand for when things got busy at school but I just didn’t have the time. Between working and reconnecting with all of my friends before we ship off again it was tough to post even just once a week over the summer. While I love being relaxed and care-free during the summer, I work much better with a schedule like I’ll have at school. So even though I will have more to do, I will be able to do everything more efficiently. I am super excited to start scheduling and organizing myself so I can pump out quality posts more often!

Start a YouTube Channel

Slow down. I know what you’re probably thinking, “Wow, another blogger creating a YouTube channel, how original.” I know, it seems that everyone is doing it and I’m just jumping on the bandwagon but lets be honest – how well can I really project who I am to you guys from words on a screen and the occasional image or two? Not very. Plus, I’ve always wanted a talk show, and hey, YouTube is the next best thing!

So there you have it! My top seven goals that I am going to focus on this year at school! I didn’t add the obvious like, ‘get good grades,’ because that’s a given! I am planning on doing a progress post every other month so you all know where I’m at with my goals and that will help hold me accountable! How embarassing will it be if in two months I have made NO progress? I’m going to start chugging away ASAP!

What are your goals for the school year? Comment below – I would love to hear them!

Getting a DSLR was one of the best decisions I made. Plus if you are planning to start a YouTube channel it will be great to have one. I currently have a Cannon T3 and I absolutely adore it. It cost about $350 but it is totally worth it. Good luck with all of your goals. I love your blog by the way. 🙂

    • I really need to finally do it! I have been lusting over the Rebel t3i for months, but it’s so expensive. And my friend let me mess around with his t2i and I really liked it – I might just go with that! Was there a huge learning curve with yours?

      Thank you so much 🙂

      • If I had the money I would definitely have gotten the t3i. It has a lot more features and is better for filming. The t3 is pretty easy to use (for me, especially because I am not very good with technology!). I have also seen plenty of YouTubers that I’ve watched that totally rave about the the t2 that they use for filming. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for. Honestly, I always read reviews and I always have a few must-have features in mind while browsing through the comments.

        I hope this helped! 🙂

        • The price is just scaring me away! I have been tucking money away for it, but I’m still around $100 away. I think I’m going to save longer and just do it. I have read so many reviews, they are so so helpful! As are you, thank you so much, Alayna!
