I’ve mentioned here before that I love fall for it’s fashion – booties, and sweaters, and leggings – oh my! Last week we had our first
real almost taste of fall on the U of I campus (even though highs are back in the eighties again this week) and I took full advantage of it!
I couldn’t go all out, because admittedly it was still a little warm for chunky knits and scarves, but I still think I did a good job bringing in some fall vibes with this outfit. I pulled out my all-time favorite pair of booties from JC Penney, and some great Jessica Simpson cropped jeans (that I got for a steal!), and topped everything off with a polka dot blouse that I honestly haven’t worn in probably six years (but now I’m kicking myself for those years of neglect!)
One thing I especially love for the colder months is statement jewelry. In the spring and summer most jewels are reserved for special occasions because the combination of the heat and the added weight of the jewelry leaves me feeling claustrophobic and uncomfortable, but when it cools down it’s a whole ‘nother story. I recently got this new statement necklace* (my new obsession!) from The Happiness Boutique and I couldn’t be more thrilled with it! I love the vintage-y Hollywood look and especially love how easy it is to dress up or dress down. The Happiness Boutique has a huge range of jewelry including their statement necklaces, bracelets, and some incredible earrings! If you check them out – keep in mind that they have free shipping and a customer reward program, too!
Another thing that only ever really comes out in the fall for me is heavier make up – in the summer it makes me feel icky and cake-y and it melts all over the place, but the colder weather allows me to experiment a bit and be brave. Reds and berries are my favorite (though even then I only wear them on special occasions!) But I thought the lipstick I paired with the outfit really helped dress things up and tie everything together!
Besides the obvious sweaters and boots – are there any trends that you only pull out when the weather cools down? Let me know in the comments below!
Also – I want to say a quick thank you to Micah for the awesome pictures – he is beyond talented! If you want some major photography inspo, go follow him on Instagram (hopefully my face will pop up there time to time, too! I’m really hoping to shoot with him again!)
