I’ve mentioned before that I am was training for a half marathon this summer – unfortunately and ankle injury made running impossible for the time being, but I am still regularly going to the gym to use the elliptical, lift weights, and do core exercises. I can’t rave enough about the benefits of working out and getting your daily dose of endorphins, but I will spare you from dealing with that and just say that working out – even if just for 15 or 20 minutes a day – will lift your mood and give you a huge energy boost. Trust me. But if you’re just working out and not pairing that with eating right, you aren’t going to be getting the most out of your time at the gym. When you’re looking for the ideal pre-workout meal you want something light, full of protein, and that is going to give you a ton of energy. Lately my go-to has been old fashioned oatmeal doctored up with a ton of extra goodies.
In my Loving Yourself post, I mentioned keeping a positivity journal, and how therapeutic it has been for me. Throughout my year of blogging I have mentioned journaling several times in different posts, and I’ve talked about how I keep separate journals for different things. I have a poetry journal I started for a creative writing class, a journal where I write stream of conscious summaries of my day, and if I am angry or upset, I write about that in a folder on Google Docs, because hearing the clanking of the keys as I angrily type is actually quite soothing. Those are all fine, and I love writing in each of them, but I realized I didn’t have a journal just for positivity. A place where I can store all of the good things that happen to me, all of my big dreams for the future, and all of the quotes that leave me feeling content and inspired. I had a journal the lovely folks at Minted gifted me laying around for several months, and the idea of a positivity journal spoke to me so I was finally able to put it to good use. This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Soffe for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine. I’ve been focusing a lot on my health lately, in all domains: mental, physical, and emotional. In doing so, I’ve found that you can’t really improve one without seeing the others improve, too. The biggest health booster for me has been going to the gym and working out. It makes me feel strong physically, and I’m also proud of what my body can accomplish. When I go I usually like to go with a girlfriend so we can cheer each other on and serve as motivation. My favorite way to workout with friends are going to the belly dance class offered at my gym, yoga, and weight lifting, I try to do each at least once a week. Needless to say, I am spending a lot of time at the gym and I’ll just say it: I like to look cute when I’m there. Expressing myself is super important to me, and sometimes my outfit is the best way to do so. If you see me at the gym, chances are that it’ll be in bright prints and fun colors. This has changed a lot since… View Post
This is a sponsored post on behalf of Pom and Millennial Blogs. As always, all opinions are my own. Something a lot of people reading my blog might not know about me is that I used to be a runner in high school, and a good one at that. I ran varsity Cross Country and Track and ended up going to state my junior year. A few health problems knocked my on my behind senior year and my running career sort of ended there, despite getting better. Recently I started regularly working out with my boyfriend, focusing on cardio and weights, and it’s made me remember how much I love running. With my rekindled love for running as strong as ever, I’ve decided that this summer I want to run a half marathon with my friend, Jared. The only problem is that I haven’t ran competitively for over two years now, and I am definitely not in shape to be racing. Time is on my side, though, and I have at least five months to get back in shape, so I’m going for it! Of course, the two big components of getting in shape are nutrition & exercise, so I developed a routine that will… View Post
Thanksgiving is officially over so now we can start looking forward to the winter holidays! For me that means Christmas parties, family get togethers, and taking lots of pictures. With that said, I always pay special attention to my makeup, and this year I want to rock the classic red lip. I had always been hesitant before. I didn’t think I could pull it off for two reasons: my baby face and my slightly discolored teeth. Luckily, I’m starting to (finally!) grow out of my baby face, and I was given a box of Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips to test out – and they are an absolute game changer! After only a few uses I noticed big difference and I can finally pull off the red lips I’ve always dreamed of. If you want to rock a glamorous holiday look with me pick up some Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips at Target and show off your dazzling smile with confidence! I had never used whitening strips before, and I was shocked how comfortable and effective they were!
