April Traffic & Income Report.

I hope you are of the mind ‘better late than never’ because I am way behind on my April Income Report. I have mentioned before how it takes a while for Blogher to update the previous month’s revenue which is why my posts are usually about two weeks into the month. Well two weeks into May I was moving back to school, starting my nannying job, and my head was not in the game. I completely forgot about my income report!

But now worries – I am righting that wrong! Better late than never, right?

Why do I do an income report?

I know it might come off as a bit strange to do income reports to people outside of the blogging worldd, but let me tell you why I like to do them:

  1. Transparency – there are a lot of ways to make money as a blogger – some honest, some not so much. I want to be completely transparent with you all to show you all exactly where I am making my money from and to assure you that I’m not pulling any funny business!
  2.  Growth Tracking – I have been publishing these since October, when I made $343 (though I made my first $40 in June!) and I’ve had so much fun keeping up with them every month. It’s definitely interesting to see how things are changing and where my income is really coming from.
  3. They are fun – when I first started realizing that you could monetize a blog, I was constantly checking out other bloggers’ reports and getting inspired. If you’re not a blogger these posts might not be your cup of tea, but blogger to blogger – I want to help open your eyes to the potential that your little slice of the internet has! My blog has grown quite a bit since I’ve started – but even if you aren’t getting massive traffic you can still make money!

APRIL

What I did this month.

April was a bit hectic, for sure! Preparing for finals took up a lot of my time – but I managed to get 15 posts up – which is always my goal! So I met that exactly, and as a result I beat a traffic record which is super exciting!

There were a few days where I published twice due to some confusion with sponsors, but luckily I didn’t see any backlash for it.

If you’re a subscriber you may have noticed that you’re not getting emails from me regularly anymore – that’s something I am working on! I used to have an email go out every time I posted – but like I said there were a few times I posted twice a day so I didn’t want to spam you. I’m looking for a plugin that will do a weekly round up email!

April Income:

Host Gator (from this post, where I show YOU how to make a blog!) – $100
BlogHer -$155.61
YouTube – $3.30
Izea – $266.67
Tap Influence – $150

Total: $675.58

Expenses

Hosting – $6.83

GRAND TOTAL:

$668.75 – Technically this number should be a bit more – but due to poor communication and a lack of firmness on my part I don’t know how much or when I am getting paid for a campaign I did. I did multiple posts and a video, so I am anticipating that payment putting me over my old record by quite a bit! So that is definitely cause for celebration!

As always, I calculated out how many hours I would have to work at minimum wage to earn this much, and I came to a total of 81 hours, or 20 hours a week. During the school year blogging is my job, though now that it’s summer I am also nannying.

Traffic:

I was so close to meeting my goal of 300,00 pageviews – I keep kicking myself thinking if I would have only tweeted a few more times or pinned a few more posts to Pinterest. But either way I am so happy – it’s a new record for the blog and I couldn’t be more thrilled! Looking ahead a few months, I am hoping to be getting 500,000 monthly pageviews by the time Mostly Morgan is a year and a half in August – so it’s great to see an upward trend!

Can you make money blogging?

Yes! If you are interested in making a profitable blog – I would be more than happy to help! I have an incredibly detailed guide to setting up a blog here, and from there you can check out my blogging tips (there are a lot!) and if you need any further help – email me! I absolutely love talking about blogging (my friends and family are sick of hearing about it!) so do not hesitate.

  • Congrats on your success! It’s always encouraging to read your posts on this topic!

  • I always love seeing these posts because you are so open and honest about how you made money, how much you earned, and what what network you earned the money. Many bloggers don’t share that much information or are that open and honest with readers. Just wanted to let you know that it is appreciated that you do that! Congrats on your successes with traffic and income!

    • Thank you so much for saying so, Megan! I like to do it because when I was starting out reading income reports really helped me wrap my head around monetizing!

  • Hi Morgan,

Great numbers this month – keep it up.

I’m putting together a roundup of online income reports on my blog and would love to include your figures if I may?

I’m currently collecting figures for May and would love to see you May report. Let me know when you plan to publish them and I’ll try to get them included.

Also, just noticed that in this months report you have put “March Income” before your figures instead of April.

Keep up the great work Morgan

    Raj

    • Thank you for pointing that out!

And go right ahead and link them, absolutely! I would love to see your roundup when it’s complete!

And my May income report just went live!

That’s amazing and very helpful. I’m trying now to do my best for my Blog, but it stuck something in between. I will continue reading your Blog. Thanks a lot.

    • Thank you, Eliza! You’ll get there – just never ever give up!!

  • Great job!

did you ever find a weekly-roundup plugin?? I tend to do several posts at once too and don’t want my email subscribers to be annoyed 🙂 Also, curious about how to make a newsletter that avoids the gmail “promotions” box if there is a way… any tips?
